Resume Keywords - What Are They?

Recruiters and job advertisers are busy people. Often they are advertising for staff who will make their workload lighter so the last thing they need is to spend hundreds of hours reading every resume, and it can be hundreds, that cross their desk.

It doesn't take long for them to realize that they need to look out for some very specific things from applications. And they will appreciate being able to see them straight away. For your application to make it through this process and on to interview including proven keywords will help.

Your resume must be easy to read and follow a logical sequence. If it takes time for the reader to find the information they seek, they will often not waste the time. If you are lucky they might come back to your application, but taking this chance is false economy.

They are looking for he best person for the job, and if they have to assume skills and experience chances are they will not consider your application. Poor presentation is a mistake that will hide your skills and may stop the reader proceeding to the very information that may get you the job.

If you have experience in the industry or role that is being advertised be sure to include language that is relevant to it. Using keywords that the recruiter will identify as relevant will increase their interest.

In addition, if you know little about the industry or business, investigate how your experience could translate, and include this information. Often this information is ideal to include in your cover letter - that tool that entices the reader to turn the page to look at your resume.

Confident language is best when describing you accomplishments and responsibilities as passive language can be indirect and often fail to make an impact. Showing results rather than listing responsibilities is much more effective and demonstrates to the reader examples of your work.

If you have worked in a temporary or freelance role don't hesitate to include some of the project on which you worked in your resume. If they are particularly relevant to the advertised position, their inclusion could make a real difference to your being considered for the job.

Finally, if you think some expert help is warranted, don't hesitate to get it! If the job is worth applying for, and is one you really want, it can change your whole life. Don't skimp on paying for the expertise that could land you the job.
